Oilcloth International is excited to show off the custom print we produced for Ezee-Visit Pet Vet Mat, a company that offers "an innovative product designed with your pet's comfort in mind. Designed to stabilize pets during vet visits, a pet owner or veterinarian can provide the mat to give pets secure footing on any clinic surfaces, such as stainless steel or other types of exam tables, tile floors, and scales. The result is a more relaxed pet, vet and pet owner, and a better quality visit."

Rural Spin

Recently, Rural Spin, a blog that brings "traditional home and garden arts to a new generation," posted this picture of a typical kitchen from the early-mid Twentieth Century and of course oilcloth makes an appearance in the photo! This image was taken by the Farm Security Administration & Office of War Information. As one commentator stated, "this is [a time during which] kitchens weren't about...high priced gadgetry, but the life center of the home. Well worn pieces that were tried and true...[it was] all about simplicity and practicality" (Kris Roup). It makes sense that an oilcloth tablecloth would be a requisite accessory to any home during this time period. Nowadays, some Americans are surrounded by disposability- a throw away tablecloth might be more common in an average household, but it doesn't have to be that way, oilcloth is a sturdy, easy to clean, highly functional fabric that is offered in a variety of prints and colors for you to choose from. In accordance with the modern movement toward sustainability let's all take a note from the past and remember why it's important to invest in enduring products!

Pining for Pinning

Oilcloth International has joined the Pinterest, a new kind of social networking and image adoring website that has grown exponentially in both popularity and recognition over a short period of time. In a recent article titled "This Is Everything You Need To Know About Pinterest," author Jordan Crook examines the most recent web phenomenon that is Pinterest. Crook explains that "the questions never end [regarding how Pinterest "stack[s] up against the big guys [like tumblr, Facebook, and twitter]", mainly because Pinterest kind of came out of left field and threw the entire model on its head. It's not for women, but it is mainly women...We all want to better understand it, especially considering that the network is still building itself out."

Here are some of the most interesting facts about Pinterest that Crook offers readers:

  • The number of Pinterest users to visit the site daily has gone up 145 percent since the beginning of 2012.
  • Pinterest user growth is better than that of Facebook and Twitter at the same point in their history.
  • Brands are having a helluva time leveraging Pinterest - Better Homes & Gardens has 25,000+ followers on Pinterest, compared to 21,000 on Twitter.
It's clear that Pinterest is quickly gaining an influence amongst both brands and consumers! Check out our Pinterest here and make sure to get your own, follow us, and join in on the fun!

During the last season of Showtime's Dexter, the show's central character enjoyed finger food displayed upon an oilcloth tablecloth. Now that it's getting to be that time of the year, when the weather is a bit cold and wet, we think that this is the perfect oilcloth project! Click here to learn how to make your very own oilcloth apron bonnet and be sure to send us any of your oilcloth creations! Check out Hannah's blog Knick Knacks & Ric Rac!
